Annual General Meeting

Dear Members,

Our Annual General Meeting will be June 18th at 7:30 pm. In the past, these meetings have lasted about 40 minutes. The Google Meet link is available to members upon request at info@nsweightlifting.ca or DM us @nsweightlifting.

If you would like to become a member of the Board there are two policies of which you should be aware.

Our nomination process requires you to be a member in good standing and submit two (2) nominations from two (2) other members 1 week before the AGM. Nominations may be made via email to info@nsweightlifting.ca or to our Sport Nova Scotia Address by mail:

5516 Spring Garden Rd. 4th Floor Halifax, NS, B3J 1G6

Before applying, please review our Board Member Volunteering Policy:

1.     The purpose of this policy is to ensure Board Members contribute, when possible, to the labour involved in hosting an event.

2.     At a minimum, Board Members are obligated to assist with set-up and/or clean-up of the facility. WNS meets are run purely on the expectation that Board Members will volunteer at these events. Coaching obligations and/or competitive interests at a given competition do not exclude Board Members from responsibilities but may alleviate some expectations provided there is fair warning to the rest of the Board.

3.     A Board Member's priorities at a competition should be to the accessibility of weightlifting and facilitating a fair, fun, and safe competition for all members of the organization.

Beyond these obligations, we hold monthly meetings which usually take about 90 minutes and are often virtual. As part of their obligation, Board Members are also expected to actively contribute to the development of the sport outside Board Meetings in ways that match their interest and skills. The time commitment for this work is usually 4 or 5 hours a week.

While all members are encouraged to become involved as Board Members, the current Board is especially interested in members with interest or experience in the areas of high performance; sponsorship/branding/marketing; board governance; grassroots growth of the sport; competition related organization; and technical officiating.

Even if you choose not to run for a position on the Board we encourage you to attend the meeting and participate in the development of this sport. Because our sport is based entirely on volunteer efforts, we are always looking for volunteers. If you cannot commit to becoming a member of the Board but would like to help, please get in touch and we will find a way to get you involved.

Below you will find the AGM agenda and the Minutes from the AGM last year.

Reply with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Weightlifting Nova Scotia
