Qualifying - Canadian Senior Championships
The Canadian Senior Weightlifting Championships take place each year on the May long weekend. In order to compete at the Nationals, an athlete must meet the criteria set by the Canadian Weightlifting Federation (CWFHC).
The requirements are as follows:
- The athlete must achieve the qualifying standard during the qualifying period
- For 2020 the qualifying period is October 6 - March 31
- The athlete must achieve the qualifying standard in a competition that is subject to doping control (SDC)
- The athlete may only compete in a category in which they have qualified
- Athlete entries must be submitted through their Provincial Association

Qualifying - Canadian Junior Championships
The Canadian Junior Weightlifting Championships take place each year January. In order to be eligible, an athlete must be 20 years of age or younger. So for 2021, you must be born in 2001 or later.
The NSWA has established qualifying criteria for Nova Scotia athletes attending the Canadian Junior Championships:
- The athlete must achieve the NSWA Junior Qualifying Standard during the qualifying period
- For 2021 the qualifying period is July 1 - December 6
- A maximum of 6 male and 6 female competitors will be selected
- Athletes will be selected based on the provincial ranking list
- A maximum of 2 athletes are permitted in a bodyweight category
